Night Urination in Polycystic Kidney Disease

Abnormal urine often occur in kidney disease.Frequent night urination or increasing night urination make the patients of kidney disease can't sleep well,so I want to analysis night urination in polycystic kidney disease.The following is my view.

Increasing night urination is one of symptoms among patients with Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) and indicates the damage of renal function at the early stage of PKD. Compare with flank pain or high blood pressure, night urination is more likely to be ignored in daily life. If we adopt effective treatments at this moment, the damaged renal function can be recovered.

Night urination

As for the healthy people, their urine of 24 hours is up to 1.5L to 2L. Urine at night is one quarter to one half of urine in day time. After dinner, people tend not to drink or eat something and metabolism as well as blood circulation slows down, so initial urine will be reabsorbed thoroughly in kidney tubules and accordingly urine at night is less than urine in daytime. If urine at night is more than 750mL or the volume of urine in daytime, there must be something worry with reabsorbing of kidney tubules.

Reasons for increasing night urination

At the late stages of PKD, especially getting Kidney Failure, patients usually suffer from edema and heart diseases. Excess water depositing in body and unable to draining out in daytime, when we lie down at night, more blood will flow back to heart and the blood in kidney also increase. As more blood is filtrated in kidneys, volume of urine will be elevated. This kind of night urination is often found among patients with heart diseases.
Another reason is that kidneys fail in draining out all the metabolic waste in daytime. With few exercise or excess of secretion like sweating, more wastes and water will come out along with urine at night. Patients with chronic renal insufficiency are often bothered by this kind of night urination.
It must be cleared out that frequent urination at night caused by mental problems does not belong to increasing night urination.

Night urination in Polycystic Kidney Disease
